However, when you are going through a divorce, your social media accounts can transform from a personal scrapbook into a source of evidence for the opposing side. What you post, like, or comment on can be screenshotted, saved, and used against you in court, potentially impacting everything from financial settlements to child custody arrangements.

1. Lavish Spending, Vacations, or Major Purchases

Are you claiming you can't afford a certain alimony or child support payment? A photo of you on a tropical vacation, showing off a new car, or dining at an expensive restaurant directly contradicts that claim. These posts can be presented as evidence that you have more disposable income than you have disclosed, severely damaging your financial credibility.

2. Your New Relationship

Even if you began dating after you separated, introducing a new partner on social media during a divorce is unwise. It can create unnecessary emotional distress for your children and antagonize your ex-spouse, making negotiations more difficult.
